5 Perfect White Wine Pours for the Spring Season

Say what you will about rosé, trendy wine slushies, or fruit-alternative wines, but white wine will always be the ultimate drink for dining al fresco. So with warm-weather abound, we’re on the hunt for five impeccable springtime pours, perfect for porch sitting and sipping come 70 degree days. We spoke to James Zecca of Varmax Liquor Pantry in Port Chester to find out which white wines he’ll be drinking this season.

1. Klein Constantia-Sauvignon Blanc “Metis” 2014 – South Africa,  $17.99
A collaboration between French wine producer, Pascal Jolivet and South African purveyor, Klein Constantia. “The palate is clean and fresh with vibrant acidity, nicely weighted in the mouth with gooseberry and grass clipping notes toward the tertiary finish.”

2. Terenzuola-Vermentino “Vigne Basse” 2015 – Liguria, Italy, $13.99

Floral and salty flavors compliment notes of sweet peach and an earthy, sage undertone. The fresh, crisp style of this wine leaves a mouthwatering finish on the tongue.

3. Brea-Chardonnay – Santa Lucia Highlands, California, $24.99

Asian pear, flint, and lime zest excite the palate with fresh flavors. “This wine sees minimal oak ageing by using mostly stainless steel fermentation instead,” said Zecca. “It’s the ideal wine for spring and summer sipping.”

4. Gregory Perez-BrezoGodello & Dona Blanca – Galicia, Spain, $16.99

“A fresh, mineral, and elegant wine with notes of citrus, lanolin, and white pepper – a delicious wine to pair with fresh seafood, cheeses, roast chicken, and jamón,” said Zecca. And with only 1,250 cases produced, you better grab a bottle before it’s too late.

5. Guilhem et Jean-Hugues Goisot-Bourgogne Aligote,  $15.99

Zesty preserved lemon rind and crunchy stone fruit notes give it enormous energy. And though it’s pulpy, Zecca says, the extra fruit gives this wine more flavor. “It has more texture and ripeness than you would normally associate with the variety. It’s top drawer Chablis in disguise.” Did we mention it’s under $20!?
