Pet Rescue is a non-profit animal rescue organization dedicated to decreasing the population of homeless animals in New York State. There is no official shelter, but their website is an easy to navigate database of all their cats and dogs spread out over various foster homes. Meet and greets are set up by appointments, or by attending their scheduled events. Their next Westchester event will be the Cat Place Open House in New Rochelle on August 29 where you can meet and greet their feline friends. The event is RSVP only, so call (914) 835-6955 to make an appointment.

Pets Alive Westchester is an animal sanctuary that aims to improve the lives of companion animals. Their animals are always available to meet without appointment, and they even offer online adoption applications for a speedy approval process. They are open seven days a week, and have adoption counselors on staff who are there to assist you in finding the perfect pet.

Although not an official pet organization, there are always animals in need of homes on Craigslist. The Westchester pets section offers not just cats and dogs, but a wide variety of adoption opportunities including hamsters, rabbits, turtles, and more.
