Best Japanese for Udon 2006. Ichi Riki is frequented by local and visiting Japanese and there's a Japanese-language menu; solid signs of authenticity. No surprise then that its udon noodles; wheat-based thick noodles similar to spaghetti; are the real thing. Order the nabeyaki udon (a mere $12) and behold the iron pot brimming with shrimp tempura, fish cake, egg, scallions, shiitake, and of course snaking noodles, brought forth. It's an overloaded dish; you may forget it's technically a soup and be surprised to uncover piping hot broth at the bottom. And don't be embarrassed if the noodles require a bit of slurping; chances are you'll hear diners at adjacent tables doing some slurping of their own.
