Worn, faded, cut, ripped, if youre holding on to a rug thats seen more trouble than Britney Spears, the Golden Horn is the one to call. In the U.S. for more than a decade and in Turkey for more than a century, the company restores all types of rugs (Orientals, Dhurries, American Indian, Kilims) so that even the original weaver would be challenged to find the repair. Its secret: using hand-spun wool thats the same age as the carpet and matching the colors with natural vegetable dyes (no factory-made shades allowed). Rugs that need extra-special care are sent to experts in Turkey, where prices drop by 50 to 80 percent. Winner of Westchester Magazines 2007 Best of Westchester award for best rug restorer, The Golden Horn is happy to boast about some pretty impressive clients, including the world-famous Christies auction house. In March the company will move to a new location in Port Chester.
