Marshall and Marlene Gilchrist's The Fridge is a gourmet delicatessen and catering shop housed in a 1950's building that was originally a dairy distributorship (two of the original freezer doors are part of the retro decor). If you're coming for breakfast, try one of the homemade sugary scones bursting with jumbo-size pieces of sweet fruit or a buttery croissant from Balthazar Bakery. The Fridge also has a coffee bar offering freshly roasted Sumatran coffee. Order an espresso, cappuccino, or latte, or pour yourself a cup from the Thermos resting on the 100-year-old stove purchased. The grilled-chicken burrito with jalapenos, sweet onions, and beans is a bestseller for lunch, as is the egg salad flavored with dill, carrots, and scallions. The Fridge also sells specialty breads from New York City and desserts such as brownies made with imported French chocolate.
