Provisions is a comfy cafe, replete with still-warm baked goods, yummy comfort fare (try the rich and dreamy mac n' cheese), gourmet sandwiches (curried chicken salad on apple walnut bread) and 'like Mom's' ready-to-eat takeout meals. Owner Nannette Conners makes most everything from scratch, including homespun desserts such as cookies (toffee and cherry chippers, oatmeal, and peanut butter), cupcakes, layer cakes, retro sweets (Twinkies, whoopie pies), and apple crisp.
Best Prepared Foods South; 2008. Yes, there are a few tables at Provisions, Nannette Conners's snug open-kitchen cafe, but the core business is takeout comfort far; the kind of from-scratch food your mom made when you were a kid (or you wish your mom made). Think steaming potpies loaded with succulent chicken and fresh peas; chunky leek-potato soup; house-made granola with oats, almonds, coconut, and honey; and rich and creamy (and, yes, high-cal) macaroni and cheese; 'not the low-fat version,' Conners says proudly.
