Mint Premium Foods stocks exotic cheeses, cured meat, olives, beer, and premium dark chocolate, among other gourmet items from all over the world. Moroccan-born owner Hassan Jarane encourages customers to sample some of his imported cheeses (he carries 40 to 45 selections from around the world on any given day). Customers can choose among honey-baked pecans from Mexico, sobrasada (a Spanish-style spreadable sausage), raisins on the vine imported from the Mojave Desert, Sicilian white-flour honey, and a wide selection of olive oils, from the fruity Aria Private Reserve in Greece to the spicy Tunisian Les Moulins Mahjoub. Mint's prepared foods include all-natural, free-range rotisserie chicken; marinated overnight in saffron, fleur de sel, lemon, and ginger; and baby back ribs slathered with homemade barbecue sauce.

Best Falafel (2005)

Fans of this Middle Eastern specialty can enjoy owner Hassan Jarane's version: golden brown rounds of mashed garbanzo beans, garlic, tahini, lime, roasted peppers, salt and pepper are cooked in peanut oil and served in a fresh pita ($5.99) with yogurt, tahini and hummus for dipping. And while your order is being prepared, browse his store for divine, delicious, and delectable gourmet foods like rosemary peppercorn ham from Italy, high-end balsamic vinegar and olive oil, free range rotisserie chicken seasoned with saffron and fleur de sel, Japanese calamari salad, and 65 different cheeses.

Best Rotisserie Chicken (2006)

Mint's moist, utterly succulent, free-range chicken is marinated overnight in the most wonderful concoction of saffron, fleur de sel, garlic, ginger, orange, and olive oil--delish! People come from all over Westchester to get their hands on these birds. Come early--they sell out fast.

Best Hot Chocolate (2011)

This ain’t your regular Swiss Miss. Hit up this exotic, bazaar-style shop in the heart of downtown Tarrytown for a delicious, homemade cuppa hot chocolate. The off-the-menu, seasonal drink is a favorite treat among regulars—especially during the harsh New York winter months. Ask Moroccan-born owner Hassan Jarane for an order and—using a steamer, a bar of Verona cocoa, espresso chocolate, and a touch of milk—he’ll whip up a cup of liquid, chocolate-y goodness, sure to satisfy any sweet tooth. But beware: the hospitable, ever-obliging Hassan is sure to have you sampling the shop’s vanilla-infused cherries, halva, honey-glazed pecans, exotic cheeses, and other hard-to-find goodies that you likely won’t be able to resist before leaving his gourmet emporium.
