Riverdale Country School is a Pre-K through Grade 12 independent school in the northwest Bronx committed to empowering lifelong learners by developing minds, building character, and creating community in order to change our world for the good.
Riverdale’s rigorous academic program is comprehensive in its scope, including both classroom and co-curricular experiences to help make learning active. We empower intellectual students, not just high achieving academic ones. By thinking broadly and identifying connections through interdisciplinary education, our students achieve individual growth through choice, action, and reflection. They discover—and then pursue—their own personal interests, all the while developing collegial and supportive relationships with their teachers that foster learning.
Our emphasis on character education throughout the school readies our students for real-world challenges and contributes greatly to their success. Innovative programs and partnerships with IDEO, Parsons School of Design, Edgemakers, and other forward-thinking groups bring design thinking to our students and faculty, and empower students to be change-makers.
Riverdale’s beautiful campuses are used daily, not only for physical education and sports, but in classes in all disciplines: science, math, English, history, health, art, and drama. Our 8-acre River Campus for children in Pre-K through Grade 5 provides a safe space in which to explore. Situated between Wave Hill (a public garden) and Riverdale Park, it encourages hands-on learning. Our 19.5-acre Hill Campus, home to our Middle and Upper Schools, provides plenty of outdoor areas where students can play, study, read, participate in sports, paint, take photos, or dream.
