Gracious Living Design Studio in Pelham, Oock in Bedford, Greeley Home & Hardware Co. in Chappaqua, and Porcelanosa in Riverside, Connecticut
While Porcelanosa has been known for its stunning upscale tile since Studio 54 had the most happening floors in town, the company today adds beautifully designed bathroom vanities, kitchens, and other products to its roster of offerings. Porcelanosa’s new 3,400-square-foot showroom, now in our own backyard, showcases its sleek European-style kitchens, traditional and contemporary tile, and bathroom vanities and faucets in a variety of vignettes for scores of ideas. Best yet, the company showed a strong green commitment long before it was fashionable, consistently improving its production system to minimize its impact on the environment for more than 30 years.

She’s made a name for herself with award-winning projects and her ability to blend a background in both architecture and interior design. Today, Bedford-based architect Carol J.W. Kurth, AIA, is showing an additional face—a green one—with the opening of OOCK, a design resource for sustainable living in Bedford. The earth-conscious design boutique features home accessories including pillows, area rugs, organic linens, and eco-friendly gifts (not to mention those heralded interior-design and architectural services). hammering home design
With Vanessa Williams and Hillary Clinton as repeat clients, Gina Gore must be doing something right. The enterprising owner of Greeley Home & Hardware on Chappaqua’s Greeley Avenue has transformed the 3,000-square-foot nuts-and-bolts resource into a mecca for upscale interior-design accessories and home fashions. Going from purely practical to positively posh, Gore added a design showroom, called Finally Home, offering top lines typically found at the D & D Building, including lighting lines (Fine Arts and Visual Comfort), furniture (Palecek and Woodland), wallcoverings (Stark, Farrow & Ball, Zoffany, and Kravet), high-end architectural hardware (Rocky Mountain and Baldwin), and custom draperies.

Gracious Living Design Studio is a new Pelham storefront that heralds something we’ve long known: eclectic design is here to stay. Before stepping into the home-design studio, the front window display—with its sheers, leopard-print ottoman, and contemporary Capri shell chandelier—gives hint at its owners’ philosophy that contemporary and classic need not be mutually exclusive. Decorators Christine Farahat and Carlos Quintero (who, between them, have spent 30-plus years working with local clients) offer a wide variety of fabrics from Robert Allen, Kravet, Kasmir, Westgate, and others for draperies, upholstery, and slipcovers, as well as Hunter Douglas shades and blinds—and even unique gifts for a little something different.
