The design goal for this Larchmont Manor Colonial was to refresh the classic look and bring it up to date with modern amenities. The home belongs to a family with three young children, so the space needed to be comfortable, laid-back, and family friendly — yet full of style. An eclectic mix of details were chosen to create a layered look.

The staircases define this entry hall, which is part of a modern home. There are two sets of stairs within a very open floor plan. A neutral floor serves as a base for the floating walnut stairs with a glass banister and glass balcony above. These stairs are sculptures visible from all the main rooms. They meet on both levels of the home, provoking ethereal and diaphanous feelings to first-time guests.

Pulling inspiration from the coastline of San Francisco, this design incorporates color and texture to create a West Coast escape in the heart of Westchester. The designer chose to add unique details throughout the house to highlight its early 20th-century architecture. That is especially apparent in the entry hall, where architectural details share space with modern light fixtures and accessories.
