This 1910 Edwardian Colonial was gut-renovated, and additions were made to allow the family the conveniences of modern-day living, including a large mudroom, walk-in pantry, and open-concept kitchen and family room, all while maintaining the charm of the house. The previous first floor was choppy and not conducive to entertaining. The kitchen is now centrally located and acts as the hub of the home. The basement was also gutted and reconfigured, giving the homeowners a new full bathroom, a large home gym, laundry room, lounge area, and art space for the children. On the second floor, the master bedroom was enlarged; another bedroom was reconfigured; and the children’s bathroom was updated.

This client wanted to freshen the interiors of this Victorian home built in 1900 by adding color and personality to each space while keeping it functional and livable. The large, open space running across the front of the house includes the dining room, living room, and foyer, which are all visually connected. The overall palette for this area is teal and purple. In the family room, which is the main hangout for the family, designer Claire Paquin chose durable fabrics in neutral colors and added pops of pink, red, and orange. The kitchen also got a complete refresh. The cabinets were refinished; the island was reconfigured; and the designer added new countertops, backsplash, and lights.

This project consisted of the addition and gut-renovation of many rooms. The kitchen, mudroom, and master bath were all enlarged, while the breakfast room and family room required additions. Custom cabinets were used throughout; the existing fireplace mantel now shares a mantel surround with the television; and tray ceilings were added to the breakfast room and kitchen.
