“The concept for this addition was to create a new kitchen with all the up-to-date technology and accessories, but with the feel of an old scullery,” says O’Kane. “The interior wall of the kitchen was the exterior brick of the existing structure. The Waterworks Grove Brickworks tile gives the appearance of the ‘old’ existing brick, but painted. We used one-inch-thick
Shaker-style cabinetry from the Bilotta Collection in a custom paint on the perimeter and a custom stain and texture on rift-cut white oak for the island.” The tall pantry larders cap off the runs of countertop allowing for work-tops at each vignette. Reclaimed floor and beams help to give this new room a “lived-in” look.

The house, says O’Kane, “is situated right on the water and the way the cabinetry wraps around the windows allows the breathtaking views to be a part of the space and the story.” The builder was Murphy Brothers Contracting.

“For ‘Cucina Modern,’ we collaborated with a great client and Leicht Cabinetry to reinvent the kitchen,” says Carol Kurth, FAIA. “By opening up just one wall and a doorway to merge spaces, we then unified them with porcelain flooring to create a vibrant modern space. Utilizing a crisp palette with dramatic wood accents complemented by warm hues in the stained-glass backsplash, we created an ambience that transforms the space into a dazzling gem, resulting in a dramatic backdrop for cooking, entertaining, and lifestyle.” The homeowner, who has “had the amazing opportunity to work with” Kurth for many years, says, “As a design collaborator for my new kitchen, I was thrilled to be a part of the design process; I love the results.”

“A multitude of custom details define this modern Leicht Westchester kitchen” designed for a home set on 11 wooded acres, says Garcia Taborda. “This is a classic example of color used as well-planned accents. There is an overarching sense of restraint, meaning, and the use of color in a way that makes sense to the space so that the colors chosen make a simple statement, often to support the bigger design elements.” The initial concept and the architectural layout, as well as the design of the curved countertop, came from architect Tasos Kokoris, who worked with Leicht Westchtester to execute the design. “We are thrilled with the result,” says the homeowner. “It is now a room where we spend the majority of our day. It is bright, beautiful, and very functional.”
