Our Top 10 List

Most of us love our homes—they are a reflection of who we are, a statement on what we value. Tastes, of course, differ, and one person’s idea of a beautiful house may be another’s anathema. Still, sometimes we come across a home that nearly everyone can agree is truly breathtaking. Our scouts crisscrossed the county, from the back roads and byways to the manicured suburbs, to find 10 of the most architecturally significant, innovatively designed, and just plain gorgeous houses in Westchester. Our criteria were based strictly on curb or, in some instances, waterfront appeal. We hope one or more of these homes will take your breath away, too. See our selections starting on page 42.

Past issues have focused on kitchens, and rightly so: they are the heart of the home. But serving meals to friends and family is an act of love and we decided dining rooms finally deserved their due. We feature eight engaging rooms (page 54) where we would love to be invited for dinner.

There’s lots more in this issue, including features on fashion designer Eileen Fisher’s waterfront home in Irvington (page 62) and an unexpected (and exuberant) prairie garden in Bronxville (page 70). Meet Canfin Gallery owner Jean-Claude Canfin, who switched gears from Wall Street to the art world (page 26), find out fashion maven Mary Jane Denzer’s favorite home accessories (page 24), and learn some of Zuppa's Chef Pasquale Dedi’s favorite recipes. This issue also has tips on how to choose a dishwasher and explores new shops, products, trends, and more.

Have you remodeled your kitchen lately? We’d love to see your before and after pictures—the best ones will be featured in our winter issue. See contest rules and details at westchestermagazine.com and, while you’re there, sign up for our WestNest newsletter, to get up-to-the-minute real estate and home-related news.

On a final note, we are pleased to note that Vasken Demirjian Salon—featured as an example of great design in our summer "Best of Everything" issue—was just selected as the most beautifully designed salon in the entire country by the salon industry. Validation is a good thing.
