Situated at the edge of the town of Hawley, visitors find an intoxicating blend of artistry and quiet comfort just beyond The Settlers Inn’s vibrant gardens. Built in 1927, the property is a display of English Arts and Crafts design, boasting chestnut-wood beams, handcrafted tiles, and Mission-style furniture—including an evocative antique grandfather clock in the main common space.

A calming stillness is apparent upon entering the dimly lit lobby, accompanied by the aroma of hickory, which permeates the grounds. The same tranquility can be found within the inn’s 23 rooms, each with its own view of the graceful landscape.

Guests are encouraged to stroll the garden and the banks of the Lackawaxen River in the inn’s backyard, or take a short ride into town on one of the inviting bikes on the front porch. The nearby Hawley Silk Mill is an eclectic mix of retail spaces, from a market, a bakery, and an antique shop to the Cocoon Coffeehouse; it showcases musical and comedic talent from around the country. Meanwhile, leaf-peeping nature lovers will need only a comfortable pair of shoes and one of the inn’s walking sticks to discover the idyllic walks, hikes, and waterfalls just down the road a piece.

Scenic Spots

Hidden among the trees along the hiking path, 75-foot Dingmans Falls cascades into a creek that wends its way through a lush hemlock ravine. If you’re a little more daring, climb the steps to the top of the falls.
Ask the concierge to supply directions for the Scenic Back Roads Tour, a meandering 50-mile course along the Lackawaxen and Delaware Rivers, past funky antique shops, to some of the state’s top historic sites.
Be sure to bring a camera to Shuman Point Natural Area, on the border of Lake Wallenpaupack, to snap photos of the vast landscape.

Must Do

The Lackawaxen and Delaware Rivers are ideal fishing waters for trout and shad, while nearby Lake Wallenpaupack is a popular bass-fishing spot (the inn offers fishing packages you can take advantage of). Also visit Bushkill Falls, referred to as the “Niagara of Pennsylvania,” for its 300-foot drop to the bottom of the lower gorge.
