Delamar Southport: Connecticut’s Chic Fall Getaway
Apple-picking and other promotions not far from White Plains
Those desperate for a weekend getaway who don’t have the time to travel very far can transport themselves to a pampered oasis in less than an hour. Sister property to the Delamar Greenwich Harbor Hotel, the Southport offers a comparable level of luxury and service. The property features 44 rooms and suites, both valet and garage parking, fabulous onsite dining (details below), fitness room and bookable spa suite, and outdoor café/bar on a private courtyard terrace.
Dine: An amazing meal is only an elevator ride away. With woodsy Scandinavian décor and a New England-inspired menu, the Delamar’s Artisan Restaurant, Tavern & Garden, offers contemporary takes on classic American favorites, from grilled cheese and tomato soup in the Tavern to pork chops, which our waiter insisted was the best entrée on the dinner menu (he most definitely did not steer us wrong). Dessert at Artisan is an extra-special treat—all of the ice creams and sorbets are made in-house. (We enthusiastically recommend the sundae, which allows you to sample three different flavors). A hearty breakfast is served to all hotel guests every morning, and features several hot additions, including perfectly pressed, well-cooked bacon.

Explore: Downtown Southport, which is part of Fairfield, is an endearing coastal village with tree-lined streets. This one-time enclave for sea captains gives you a healthy dose of Rockwellian New England without having to travel to Massachusetts or Vermont. Art lovers should definitely check out what’s on exhibit at the Southport Galleries (southportgalleries.com). The Maritime Aquarium in nearby Norwalk (maritimeaquarium.org) offers a look at underwater life in the Long Island Sound, with more than 1,200 marine animals on exhibit.
Insider Tip: When the spa suite is not booked for treatments, it is open to all hotel guests, who are welcome to avail themselves of the steam shower, or camp out and de-stress in its dimly lit relaxation lounge with TV, fireplace, and Keurig beverage maker.
