This Month's Winner's and Losers

WINNERS

James Patterson. The popular author and Briarcliff Manor resident kicked off his new national campaign to promote child literacy with a presentation at the Ossining Public Library.

County jet-setters. The county airport began offering its first international flights when carrier JetBlue began daily nonstop service to the Bahamas.

Westchester County government. Its credit rating was recently reaffirmed as a triple-A, the highest possible score, ensuring that its bonds will continue to be sold at the most competitive interest rates possible.

LOSERS

County taxpayers. A new report reveals that Westchester’s legislators spent nearly $40,000 on catered meals, travel, and cellphone expenses in 2010.

Lauren Jackson. The teenage college student from Yonkers was arrested for dumping a vat of chili(!) on a display of panties at the White Plains Victoria’s Secret.

Danny Schuler. The widower of the “Taconic Wrong-Way Driver,” Diane Schuler, is now suing his wife’s brother, Warren Hance. Hance’s three daughters were among the eight people killed when a reportedly drunk and high Diane Schuler drove the wrong way on the Taconic Parkway in 2009, but he’s now being sued by his brother-in-law, because it was his car in the fatal crash.
