FeedWestchester's Most Dangerous Road for Pedestrians
Look both ways—twice—when crossing Route 9A.

The Tri-State Transportation Campaign (tstc.org) crunched the numbers on pedestrian fatalities in the area and released a report on our most treacherous crossings. Based on the years 2008 through 2010, the most dangerous road in Westchester County is Saw Mill River Road—better known as 9A—specifically between White Plains Avenue and Route 100C. “It has four lanes of traffic for most of its stretch—two lanes in each direction—with few pedestrian amenities such as islands, crosswalks, or crossing signals,” says Veronica Vanterpool, associate director of the campaign.
