New Stores, October 2011: Isabelle's Fine Jewelry in Rye, NY, and Secret Society 914 in Mount Kisco, NY
Isabelle’s Fine Jewelry
27 Purchase St, Rye (914) 921-1888
It’s a family affair: mother-and-son jewelers Isabelle and David Kirschenbaum launched this shop recently in Rye. Isabelle was trained at Harry Winston and David started off at age 19 polishing diamonds in South Africa for Martin Kirschenbaum, Inc., his dad’s wholesale jewelry company. Specializing in yellow and fancy colored diamonds, designer jewelry, and watches, the family business manufactures more than 70 percent of the shop’s inventory. Other offerings include the edgy, 18-karat white gold and diamond jewelry collection from emerging designer Betty Lou Moscot ($500-$10,000) and funky sterling-silver styles by Elizabeth Buenaventura ($150-$6,000). The shop also offers custom design and repairs, and purchases estate jewelry, gold, and diamonds.

A trio of serious sneaker-heads with a combined personal collection of 700 pairs has launched this cool shop, an emporium for exclusive retro sneakers. Yes, you’ll find new designs from Nike, Adidas, Puma, etc., but highlighted are hard-to-find past releases, like the original Jordans from the '90s and early '00s. “Before, kids had to go to the City to get these exclusive styles,” says co-owner Chris Quarles. “Now, they can see them up close and personal.” One pair that’s a must-view? Nike’s Paris SVs. Price tag: $5,500. One of only 580 pairs worldwide, each features an individual artist-drawn design. Mainstream sneakers start at $95, with collectors' editions typically ranging from $200 to $300. Also offered: the store’s own brand of varsity jackets and apparel.
