Lesser-Known Holidays This Month

November 3—Sandwich Day Online sources don’t shed much light on the origin of this awesome holiday—but who cares? Seize the excuse to grab a mouthwatering sammy from one of our all-time favorites, like Good-Life Gourmet in Irvington, Melt Sandwich Shop in White Plains, or Blackboard Pizza Shop in New Rochelle.

November 7—National Philanthropy Day Given how fortunate many of us are here in the County, the 7th of November is a great opportunity to think about giving back to the community. Start by joining the Westchester chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals at its annual National Philanthropy Day Conference at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Tarrytown today.

November 29—Buy Nothing Day Started in 1992 in Canada as “a day for society to examine the issue of over-consumption,” according to backers Adbusters magazine, Buy Nothing Day is also known as Occupy Xmas. The majority of the population might be scampering to The Westchester or Ridge Hill, but it might be better to sleep in and avoid the stress (at least).
