A Yonkers Bridge Rated the 5th Most Dangerous in the Country

The Good: Favorite child Scarsdale nabbed the number-one spot in a roundup of the nation’s “top-earning towns” published in August by Money magazine, with its median family income of $291,542. “Where do you live when you’ve ‘made it’?” the mag asked—“affluent communities like Scarsdale, NY,” of course.

The Bad:  That same month, Travel + Leisure called out one of our own on its list of America’s Most Dangerous Bridges—and its not the one you think. The fifth most dangerous bridge in the country is in Yonkers, a 1940 concrete span of Saw Mill River Parkway over the Cross County Parkway. In 2011, its structural condition scored the lowest possible rating for it to remain open to traffic. (They’re celebrating at TZ Bridge project HQ.)

The Ugly: Okay, now this is just bullying. Allstate publicly shamed one of our most misunderstood cities with the announcement that Yonkers took 174th place on its 2013 Best Drivers Report—not great out of America’s 200 largest cities—also in, uh, August. Thanks for the participation award, Allstate. And, hey, Yonkers: It gets better
