Planned Parenthood’s Empower Benefit

Abigail Kirsch at Tappan Hill, Tarrytown

Approximately 300 supporters, including local politicians Janet DiFiore, Ken Jenkins, Elliot Engel, Sandy Galef, Amy Paulin, and Suzi Oppenheimer, attended Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic’s annual Empower benefit breakfast.
White Plains resident Francine “Frankie” Stein was honored for 40 years of service as a champion of women’s health and reproductive freedom. She is credited with adding abortion services to PPHP’s roster of care; creating PPHP’s advocacy arm (the Action Fund);, and bringing together Suffolk, Westchester, Rockland, and Putnam Counties to expand services in the region.
The keynote speaker was Sarah Weddington, who argued Roe v. Wade before the Supreme Court. A highlight of the event was a service auction that raised $25,075 for staffing for a SmartWheels mobile education and testing van.
