The 411: It’s said that there are more horses than people in North Salem, which may well be true, considering the number you see grazing on the many farms lining the roads that wind through town. Old Salem Farm is a nationally known venue for equestrian competitions, while the Goldens Bridge Hunt Club is one of the oldest fox-hunting clubs in the country. The North Salem Riding Trails Association offers miles of beautiful trail riding. This town jumped on the conservation bandwagon decades ago, so there is plenty of open space scattered throughout the hamlets of Croton Falls, Purdys, and Peach Lake in the northeastern-most part of Westchester, bordering Putnam County and Connecticut. Dining options are limited, but excellent (Vox and John-Michael’s for French, 121 for New American, Croton Creek Steakhouse for steaks, Blazer Pub for burgers, Primavera for Italian.)
