An array of dishes at Vega Mexican in Hartsdale

Restaurateur Joe Bueti and Executive Chef Mogan Anthony have brought their buzzy Mount Kisco gastropub to South County with the opening of the second Village Social Kitchen & Bar (67 Purchase St, Rye; 914.612.4267). The menu, overseen by Anthony but executed on a daily basis by Chef Alex Aparicio (formerly at vegan restaurant Avant Garden in the East Village), offers creative American fare, such as crispy rice fritters with fontina and honey, a short-rib grilled cheese on sourdough, seafood fettuccine with Calabrian chili, and roasted cauliflower with a curried heirloom bean cassoulet. Encore Bistro was in the location previously.

Expected to open before summer in the space that formerly housed Red Plum is The Birch Collective (91 Mamaroneck Ave, White Plains; 914.437.9065), a Quebec-inspired gastropub offering poutine, homemade sugar pie, and outrageous cocktails.

Pasadena, CA-based fast-casual chain Blaze Pizza (www.blazepizza.com), with 170-plus locations, is coming to the county at 220 Main Street in White Plains as of late spring/early summer. Personal pizzas are baked-to-order using nitrate-free meats and other ingredients with no artificial colors, flavors, preservatives, or high fructose corn syrup. The company was founded in 2012; an original investor is NBA star LeBron James.

Supermarket chain Hmart, specializing in Asian groceries, fresh fish, and buckets of kimchi, opened April 13 in Yonkers at 1757 Central Avenue in the Highridge Plaza where Pathmark was previously. It is the second county location of Hmart; the first is at 271 Central Avenue in Hartsdale.

There's no shortage of kimchi at the new Yonkers location of Hmart

Persian cuisine restaurant Marjan Kebob House (2122 Boston Post Rd, Larchmont; 914.630.0148) opened in February. On the menu: stuffed grape leaves, sambooseh (savory filled turnovers), flame-grilled lamb, chicken, and tilapia skewers, and lamb shank with herbs and garlic simmered in tomato sauce. The BYOB restaurant has about 24 seats.

Dave Hartmann, a 25-plus-year brewing vet who received accreditation from the UC Davis Master Brewers Program, is now brewmaster at Yonkers Brewing Co. (92 Main St, Yonkers; 914.226.8327).

The beers at Yonkers Brewing Co. are now crafted by a new brewer, Dave Hartmann.

Vega Mexican (189 E Hartsdale Ave, Hartsdale; 914.723.0010) has added new dishes to the menu, including avocado fritters, Wings of Fire, shrimp ajillo, and the winning chipotle-battered Cancun calamari with greens, jicama, mango, and passion fruit vinaigrette.
