Singer Nellie McKay Performs at the Emelin Theatre

You may not have heard the name, but if you’ve ever seen Boardwalk Empire, Grey’s Anatomy or P.S. I Love You, you’ll know this songstress has some serious musical chops. Hear her uncommon brand of reggae-inflected grooves on May 11.

Nellie McKay

Nellie McKay may not exactly be a household name, but, chances are, you’ve come across this Tin Pan Alley-inspired singer/songwriter’s work. Her Randy Newman-esque songs have been used in TV shows like Boardwalk Empire, Grey’s Anatomy, and NCIS. (She performed onscreen in the movie P.S. I Love You.) She’s contributed to the New York Times Book Review. She’s even been on the New York stage, playing the role of Polly Peachum in the Broadway production of The Threepenny Opera, and, most recently, appearing in the vaudeville variety show Old Hats. (The New York Times wrote that McKay “can sound like Doris Day one minute and Anita O’Day the next.”) Ready to see her multiple talents in action? Head to the Emelin Theatre on May 11, when McKay will give a concert of original songs, including some from her most recent album, the reggae-inflected Home Sweet Mobile Home.
