Think your suburban family has its ups and downs? Check out Next to Normal, a musical drama about bi-polar disorder (yes, a musical about mental illness!) that peels back the proverbial white picket fence facade to see how a family in crisis copes—or crumbles. Featuring an electrifying rock score by Armonk native son Tom Kitt (13, High Fidelity, Bombay Dreams) and a compelling six-person cast that includes Jennifer Damiano (Spring Awakening), who graduated from White Plains High School in January, Next to Normal started life last year Off-Broadway. After being significantly reworked in Washington, DC, it opened at Broadway’s Longacre Theatre two weeks ago. Bring tissues.
