Stacked Up

Add a little syrup, butter, and... pure joy.

Nothing’s better than a warm mountain of pancakes to get your day going. Here, some of our favorites.

City Limits (200 Central Ave, White Plains 914-686-9000) Heaping portions of upscale diner fare bring a line out the door on Sunday mornings. Enjoy the people-watching over a towering pile of whole wheat grilled cakes ($8.25) topped with strawberries ($9.25), or be really decadent and order with chocolate chips.

The Cookery (39 Chestnut St, Dobbs Ferry 914-305-2336) Is there nothing Chef Dave DiBari can’t do? The ricotta pancakes with dulce de leche are nothing short of a decadent taste sensation sure to awaken your mind and body ($12). They’re wispy, light, and so good you’ll soon be dreaming of when you can return.

River City Grille (6 S Broadway, Irvington 914-591-2033) Griddle fans will love this simple stack, hefty enough for two. Paired with a rich cup of coffee, fruit, and your choice of country sausage or apple-wood smoked bacon, you’ll want to savor every bite ($16).

Star Diner (66 E Post Rd, White Plains 914-684-8702) It’s far from fancy, but the quick service and solid homemade fare at this retro diner make it a breakfast go-to any hour of the day (the fact that you can order breakfast anytime 24/7 is a plus). The breakfast standout: flapjacks served a buttery brown ($4.55). Add eggs or bacon for a wake-me-up hearty meal. Just remember: it’s cash only.

Wobble Café (21 Campwoods Rd, Ossining 914-762-3459) Comfort food done right, meaning old-time favorites with a dollop of healthy options. These pancakes are light, soft, and buttery, just like Mom used to make. Order them topped with fruit or filled with pecans, or add some grains to your day by asking for them with quinoa or wheat germ ($6.75; $1 extra for extras).
