The Best Waterside Dining Options in Westchester

Whether it’s the Hudson River or the Sound, Westchesterites love a water view.

Ossining

When it opened in 2017, this nautical-chic restaurant’s 100-seat terrace overlooking the Palisades became the best place in the county to catch a sunset over the Hudson River with a glass of frosé.

Café Hudson

Yonkers

Downtown Yonkers isn’t where you’d expect to find couches on the sand, but that’s exactly what attracts locals to Café Hudson. When the weather warms, the chef fires up the grill for a restaurant-style cookout of ribs and burgers — served with views of the Hudson River and Manhattan skyline.

Colony Grill

Port Chester

One advantage the Port Chester location has over the famous Stamford original: a large patio overlooking the Byram River. Much like the original, however, it’s open past midnight on weekends because a balmy summer night, pizza, and beer go together like the Fourth of July and fireworks.

Port Chester

In summer, bartaco rolls up the garage doors and transforms into an indoor-outdoor hotspot, with fresh-pressed-margarita-drinking, secret-menu-lobster-taco-eating crowds spilling out onto its Byram River-facing patio.

Forty North

Hastings-on-Hudson

Wedged between the Tennis Club of Hastings’ courts and the Hudson River, the deck at Forty North has all the classic views (Palisades, the Cuomo Bridge, and Manhattan), plus an eclectic, summer-approved Caribbean menu.

Harvest on Hudson

Hastings-on-Hudson

This waterfront institution has a handful of outdoor dining options, including a sunshower-ready covered patio and seating along the river. But the best seats are in the 2,000 sq. ft. landscaped garden with herb-and-vegetable patches, umbrellas, and wood-burning chimeneas.

Sleepy Hollow

The blue-stone patio butts right up against the RiverWalk, with views of the Hudson River and the Mario Cuomo Bridge as the backdrop for seafood towers from the raw bar and crispy, thin-crust pizzas topped with ultra-fresh seafood and produce.

Patsy’s

New Rochelle

Though it’s only about 15 miles from the East Harlem original, the New Rochelle franchise location of Patsy’s feels worlds away. That extends to the 40-seat patio, where you can split a couple coal-fired pies while watching boats bob in the New Rochelle Marina.

Fin & Brew/River Outpost Brewing Co.

Peekskill

Beer and Hudson River views are the common denominators at these two dock-and-dine-accessible options. Direct lines from the brewery tanks pour pints at the lower-level patio and beer garden, serving peel-and-eat shrimp and lobster rolls. Those same tanks also serve Fin & Brew upstairs, which pairs the craft beers with inventive, fine-dining takes on seafood.

Red Hat on the River

Irvington

The rooftop cocktail lounge at this riverside hotspot is one of Westchester’s favorite summer haunts, but dining on the patio (it’s dog-friendly, BTW) promises equally spectacular views, plus a menu of light, shareable plates, like shrimp rolls, poke, and customer-favorite french fries.

RiverMarket

Tarrytown

On weeknights, the patio at RiverMarket has some of the best people watching in town as droves of commuters return home on Metro-North. But the real draw is the views of the Cuomo Bridge lit up at night, the dog-friendly setup, and, most importantly, the expertly crafted cocktails from Emilio Ugarte.

Irvington

Yes, it’s located in a parking lot, but once you’re seated on the 1,000 sq. ft. second-floor deck with Hudson views, you’ll never notice. While there’s a DJ on Friday nights and dim-sum brunch on weekends, it’s the 51-oz, brightly colored Super Smoking Globe cocktails that draw Instagram-ready crowds.
