What’s the hottest new ingredient you might want to start playing with in your diet? Sound. According to The Guardian, the Crossmodal Research Laboratory at the University of Oxford recently did a study showing that those who ate cinder toffee while listening to high-frequency sounds described the taste as more sweet, while those who listened to low-frequency sounds said it tasted bitter. The paper also notes that a London restaurant, House of Wolf, used this knowledge to its advantage, serving diners a dessert that came with a telephone number; callers were instructed to dial 1 if they wanted a sweeter dessert, and 2 if they wanted a more bitter one. Those with a sweet tooth should take note, since sound has no calories.
