Summer Fun in Westchester: Zumba in the Water

That’s right, Beto-worshippers—that’s Zumba creator Beto Perez for the uninitiated—your favorite calorie-crushing jam sesh just became a pool party. Splash, stretch, and cool off, all while bouncing to the same pulsing Latin beats you sweat to in your studio class. Licensed Zumba instructor Toni-Michelle Rubio, a resident trainer at Family Court Sports, the Saw Mill Club, and Club Fit, touts Aqua Zumba, a temperature-right version of the original, citing its focus on increased calisthenics and the resistance benefits of a water workout. “It’s the same party atmosphere, with modified steps.”

The best part? Anyone can do it. “One of the seniors in my classes is eighty-seven,” says Rubio. Liquefy your fitness routine at the Saw Mill Club in Mount Kisco, Club Fit in Briarcliff, and Theodore D. Young Community Center in Greenburgh, where Rubio will be leading Aqua Zumba classes all summer long. Keep an eye out for updates on upcoming outdoor classes, and visit zumbawithsuzi.com for a schedule of classes at Purchase College.
