A good coffee can be more difficult to find than a good bottle of wine, and is probably more important to your daily routine. Empire Coffee Co Inc (106 Purdy Ave, Port Chester 914-305-3595; waterfrontroasters.com), a family-run, 40,000-square-foot coffee-
roasting plant, has four generations of coffee experience and has been in operation since 1984.
Waterfront Roasters, the company’s gourmet coffee division, was launched in 2004, and the newest brand, Path, just got off the ground and is the company’s next level of coffee. Jason Richter, son of owner Bob Richter, says, “We put even more time and effort into sourcing the coffees. For Path, we probably went through 30 to 50 different coffees before we decided on the two that we’re going to feature. We’re looking for flavors that are unique to a particular region.” Path currently offers varieties from Colombia and Ethiopia, as well as a decaf from Colombia.
Coffee is roasted in small batches to order, so you know it hasn’t been sitting on a shelf, losing flavor. The Richter family works to bring the same flavor profile all year long using seasonal beans.
Want to know more about your morning cup of joe? Waterfront is looking to expand its community outreach with classes, teaching everything from brewing your best cup to pairing coffee with food.
