Sports Pros Rally For Home for Girls
More than 300 guests, including professional sports stars, attended the Family Services of Westchester’s benefit for the Evelyn Sachs Steiner Home for Girls in New Rochelle. The event, held at the Clubhouse Grill in New Rochelle, raised $250,000. The monies go toward refurbishing The Steiner Home, which houses eight young women. “Having parents that can nurture and support you is something we all need in life,” says Susan B. Wayne, president and CEO of Family Services of Westchester. “But not everyone is fortunate in that regard. The youth in our residences have already faced life challenges that many of us will fortunately never know. They are often distrustful and cynical about what life has to offer. We try to change that.” Brandon Steiner of Steiner Sports Marketing Inc. in New Rochelle, along with his wife, Mara, set a star-studded invite list including past and present New York Yankees: Mariano Rivera, Goose Gossage, Yogi Berra, Reggie Jackson, Brett Gardner, Joba Chamberlain, Dave Winfield, and Doc Gooden. Also in attendance: Knicks stars Walt “Clyde” Frazier, Anthony Mason, and John Starks; ex-New York Rangers Brian Leetch, Mike Richter, and Adam Graves; and Mets legend Ed Kranepool. The benefit also served as the grand opening for the Clubhouse Grill, formerly Mo’s New York Grill.
