Who said that Westchesterites need to endure the crowds and commute of trekking to Manhattan for the Macy's Fourth of July fireworks? We've got plenty of Independence Day events lined up right here in our own backyards, with perks like food, live music, and of course, fireworks.

July 2

White Plains: Entertainment and fireworks, including children's stage, inflatable rides and food. Free. 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. White Plains High School, 550 North St. 914-422-1200.

July 4

Buchanan: Reading of the Declaration of Independence. Speaker: Mayor Daniel E. O'Neill. Free. 9 a.m. Village Hall, 236 Tate Ave. 914-737-1033.

Cold Spring: Independence Day service. Free. 10 a.m. Mekeel's Corners Chapel Association, 321 Route 301. 845-265-3902.

Croton-on-Hudson: Independence Day 1806. Reading of the Declaration of Independence, parade, patriotic speeches, songs and military re-enactors. $12, $10 seniors, $6 ages 5-17, free for children younger than 5. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Van Cortlandt Manor, South Riverside Avenue, off Route 9, Croton Point Avenue exit. 914-271-8981.

Dobbs Ferry: Fishing derby and fireworks. Fishing derby for ages 7-15 from 9 a.m. to noon, flag-raising ceremony at noon, inflatable slide and jumping castle at 1 p.m., music at 2 p.m. with Joe Rooney, and fireworks at 9 p.m. Free. Waterfront Park, on the Hudson River. 914-693-2203.

Katonah: Independence Day celebration. Reading of the Declaration of Independence and patriotic music on the front lawn. Free. 11 a.m. John Jay Homestead, 400 Route 22. 914-232-5651.

Katonah: Festivities start at 11 a.m. with the Bearcats Jazz Band — musicians with a style rooted in the New Orleans tradition. Following the concert: a tour of the House Museum and an American-as-apple-pie buffet. Reservations. 10:30am arrival. Cost: TBA.
