Roc-N-Ramen, With Gluten-Free And Low-Salt Options, Steps Up New Rochelle’s Noodle Game

On a small side street in view of New Roc City is this 40-seat ramen joint that retired police officer Wayne Carrington opened last fall, inspired by the 2008 dramedy The Ramen Girl.

Wood pallets on the walls and an oak bar lend a traditional Japanese vibe, but the short menu of classic tonkotsu (pork bone stock), shoyu (chicken stock), and veggie (miso stock) ramen is what has a growing base of noodle geeks declaring it as worthy as Manhattan ramen shops.

There are gluten-free and lower-salt ramen options, the occasional fusion specials like oxtail, jerk pork, and jerk chicken ramen, plus donburi (rice bowls) like oyako-don with grilled chicken over rice, and eggs with a sweet soy sauce, scallions, and sesame seeds. All dishes are $11 or less. Ramune brand Japanese soda is available. If you really like your meal, ringing the table bell, while not required, is encouraged.
