Chocolate Fondant Icing
The cake is enrobed in an icing made of bittersweet chocolate, powdered sugar, and corn syrup.

Creamy Layers
Between each of the cake layers is chocolate buttercream—butter, sugar, shortening, and bittersweet chocolate.

Sweet History
Hungarian baker József C. Dobos invented the multi-layered cake, originally called a Dobosh Torte, in 1884. About 50 sell a week at Topps; twice as many are sold during the holidays.

Interior
The main ingredients in the moist yellow sponge cake are cake flour, water, sugar, egg yolks, whole eggs, and a touch of almond paste.

Serving Suggestion
“This is a cake either for afternoon tea or after dinner with coffee,” says owner Jacqueline Majers Lachman.
