Red Monkey Theater’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Shakespeare performances (and midsummer nights, for that matter) aren’t just limited to warm-weather months. Catch this popular production at three different venues this January, one of which is free.

We usually associate Shakespeare with the summer, when outdoor performances like Shakespeare in the Park and the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival are in abundance. But there’s no real reason we can’t use a dose of the Bard in January to remind us that summer’s right around the corner. The Red Monkey Theater brings its production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream on a mini-tour of the area. You can see it on January 18 at the Rochambeau School in White Plains and from January 24 to January 27 at the College of Mount Saint Vincent in Riverdale, but we recommend the show on January 12 at Saint Paul’s Church National Historic Site—that one is free.

The cast as a whole may yet find their stride, but a strong performance by Tevye’s household make for an inspired rendition of the classic production.
