Latino U College Access’s Reception

The Gateway Center of Westchester Community College, Valhalla

A wine and cheese reception was held celebrating the introduction of Latino U College Access, a Westchester-based nonprofit founded by Somers resident Shirley Acevedo Buontempo. The mission of the organization is to increase college enrollment among first-generation Latino youth. Following the reception was a screening of First Generation, a documentary that explores the problem of college access faced by first-generation and low-income students.

“This is a much needed service for the Latino community,” says Eridania Camacho, assistant director of The Gateway Center and president of the board at Latino U.  “Students and families now have the resources they need to help get their children into college.”
