Listen to This Playlist From SoundCloud's Ali Peikon
A Westchester resident making (sound) waves for your listening pleasure.
Chappaqua’s Ali Peikon is curating playlists of what may be some of the best music you’ve never heard.
Peikon, a Class of ’10 Horace Greeley High School alumna, is a growth-marketing manager for SoundCloud, the online streaming service that specializes in independent artists. Unlike services like Spotify and Apple Music, SoundCloud is built to connect consumers with artists.
“You upload content directly and get immediate feedback,” advises Peikon.
SoundCloud has already served as the launchpad for future megastars. Lorde, who dropped her first EP, The Love Club, on the service, won the 2014 Song of the Year Grammy for the single “Royals.” Chance the Rapper, who used SoundCloud to spread his music without a label, won Best New Artist at the 2017 Grammys.
Peikon monitors the reach of SoundCloud’s subscription business and analyzes the impact of new features. One such feature, The Upload, creates daily playlists of new content.
“I check The Upload every day,” says Peikon. “I follow my friends, and their suggestions pop up in my stream.”
Word-of-mouth is a big part of SoundCloud’s appeal. “The point is, you’re searching around and finding new music,” Peikon notes.
