Westchester Restaurant Preview: Little Mumbai Market In Pleasantville

Don’t be deceived by its modesty—Little Mumbai’s tiny interior is packed with big flavors. Oh, and don’t forget about the crêpes.

Bonnie Saran is slowly creating a “little” Westchester kingdom with the opening of Little Mumbai Market, her third county restaurant. (She also owns a Mount Kisco spice market/lassi bar.) The menu offers the inexpensive street foods of Paris and Mumbai, including sweet or savory crêpes, frankie rolls (Indian grilled bread wraps), and rice bowls with veggies, chicken, lamb, or goat. All menu items are $10 or less.

Says Saran of her concept, “Both cities [Paris and Mumbai] have such a large disparity in income, and the only thing that brings people together is when they eat the yummy dishes at the street vendors.”

Other offerings include Mumbai food-cart fare such as pani puri (puffed bread with potatoes and chickpeas) and raj kachori (lentil puff pastry with potatoes, onions, and yogurt), plus lassis, vegan and gluten-free smoothies, and a juice bar.
