Expect modern Central and South American cuisine at Cienega Latin Cuisine (179 Main St, New Rochelle 914-632-4000). Dishes to try include pan-roasted, plantain-crusted wild striped bass; grilled Caribbean rum-and-sugar-cane-glazed lamb chops; and spicy red-pepper-glazed Alaskan king salmon ($19 to $29). A fun selection of cocktails is offered—sip on a Vampirita made with Cointreau, blood oranges, ginger-infused tequila, and lime ($9 to $12). The restaurant is in the space that once housed Steam. Serafina (199 Main St, White Plains) is set to open next month adjacent to the Ritz-Carlton, Westchester, in the spot that previously housed Via Quadronno. The Northern Italian pizza-and-pasta mini-chain has five Manhattan locations plus one in East Hampton
A new menu is offered at La Lanterna Ristorante & Caffe (23 Grey Oaks Ave, Yonkers 914-476-3060). Among the new selections: slow-braised short ribs; oven-roasted whole orata; and seafood paella with 8-oz lobster tail and chorizo ($17 to $26). The 15-year-old Northern Italian/Swiss restaurant has also undergone a remodeling. Sit at the new stammtisch or “community table” located in the center of the dining room. The Ritz-Carlton, Westchester (3 Renaissances Sq, White Plains 914-946-5500) has started a Cupcakes that Care program on Fridays—$.50 of every $3.50 cupcake purchased will benefit local charitys. Offerings change by season. This fall, the cupcakes offered are: Pink Lady, benefiting Breast Cancer Research Fund; in the winter, it’s Snow Angel, benefiting Blythedale Children’s Hospital. The classic French Chrismas cake, bûche de Noël, is among the cakes and tarts on the holiday menu this month at La Renaissance (9 Harwood Ct, Scarsdale 914-472-0702). Three varieties are available: chocolate royale (white and dark chocolate mouse filling); chocolate ganache (bittersweet chocolate ganache cream filling); and mocha supreme (Kahlua mocha mousse filling). Chop’t Creative Salad Company is coming to the Rye Ridge Shopping Center in early spring. The chainlet proffers an assembly line of salad options including heirloom lettuces, organic veggies, naturally raised meats, and creative dressings. Chop’t has four Manhattan and four D.C. locations
Competing with nearby Westchester Burger Co by next month will be Cheeburger Cheeburger (84-86 Mamaroneck Ave, White Plains), a national burger chain known for not serving hamburgers—cheeseburgers only!—and offering free toppings and more than 70 flavors of shakes.
