Description

Over 2,000 Walkers and supporters are expected to participate in The ALS Association Greater New York Chapter’s 12th Annual Walk to Defeat ALS fund raiser in Westchester on Sunday, June 23rd, 9:00am at Manhattanville College. The walk will be located at 2900 Purchase St, Purchase, NY 10577.

The Walk is wheelchair and stroller accessible. Before and after the Walk there will be family friendly activities such as face painting, music, mascots, refreshments, and other fun & games.

Every 90 minutes, someone in the United States is diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic or socioeconomic boundaries and can affect anyone. It is estimated that more than 20,000 Americans have the disease at any given time and the average life expectancy is two to five years after diagnosis. There is no known cause, no effective treatment, and no cure.

For more information, contact Maggy Kucera at 212-720-3042 or mkucera@als-ny.org. To create a walk team or to donate, please go online and visit the Walk to Defeat ALS webpage at: ALSWALKS.ORG.

Proceeds from the event will go to The ALS Association Greater New York Chapter. As one of The ALS Association’s leading chapters, The Greater New York Chapter serves people living with ALS and their families throughout New York City, Long Island, Northern & Central New Jersey, and Westchester & the Hudson Valley.

The ALS Association Greater New York Chapter plays a major role in promoting the mission to lead the fight to treat and cure ALS through global research and nationwide advocacy, while also empowering people with Lou Gehrig's Disease and their families to live fuller lives by providing them with compassionate care and support. The ALS Association is the only national non-profit organization fighting Lou Gehrig’s Disease on every front.
