What To Do

The Vagina Monologues

Feb 13, 2019
07:00 PM until 09:00 PM

On February 13, 2019 at 7pm, V-Day Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow will present their second production of Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues, a one-night-only benefit at the Tarrytown Music Hall in Tarrytown, NY. The show will be directed by Gina Lamparella and Nancy Puleo.  Proceeds from the event will be shared between Hope’s Door (www.hopesdoorny.org) and My Sisters’ Place (www.mspny.org), Westchester-based organizations that work to end domestic violence. The Vagina Monologues addresses women’s resiliency, sensuality, and the social stigma surrounding abuse and violence against all women. The monologues will be performed by local women as well as some special guests.

Tickets can be purchased at www.tarrytownmusichall.org. There are a variety of pricing tiers, as well as limited number of tickets for purchase to a celebratory after-party, featuring cast members and special guests. Individual and corporate donations are welcomed and can be made through the Hope’s Door website (https://hopesdoorny.org). Please specify that they are for 2018 V-Day production.

“Today’s frightening climate of racism, misogyny, and xenophobia magnifies the need for all communities, especially communities of color, to take a vocal and powerful stand” says
co-producer Ann Neilsen. “Producing The Vagina Monologues is a movement that gives all women in our community and throughout the world a powerful voice by which to educate and empower.”

This year marks the 21st anniversary of The Vagina Monologues, which later gave birth to V-Day, a global activist movement to end violence against all women and girls (cisgender, transgender, and gender non-conforming). Since 1998, The Vagina Monologues and other works have been performed across the world by local V-Day activists, raising over $100 million for grassroots anti-violence groups, rape crisis centers, domestic violence shelters, and safe houses in places like Kenya and Afghanistan. In 2013 V-Day founded One Billion Rising, the largest mass action ever to demand an end to violence against women. V-Day and One Billion Rising are a crucial part of the global fight to stop gender-based violence by exposing the patterns of domestic violence that allows perpetrators to maintain power and control over their victims.

V-Day.org offers stage productions and documentaries to communities and campuses around the world for use in raising awareness and ending violence against women and girls, as well as to raise funds for organizations working to end the violence. Current studies show that it is estimated that one billion women and girls—cis-, trans- and gender non-binary individuals— will be physically, emotionally or sexually abused in their lifetimes.

The V-Day Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow group is deeply committed to this cause. It is our goal, with your support, to make substantial and beneficial donations to Hope’s Door and My Sisters’ Place by March 1, 2019.

Says co-producer Tracy Brown, “We are excited to be coming together for the fourth time since 2012, to address the ongoing issue of violence against women and girls. Since forming in 2011, this group of local activists has raised over $25,000 through our first performance of the Vagina Monologues and two One Billion Rising events.”
