Preview Screening

Sighted Eyes/Feeling Heart follows the life and work of award-winning playwright, author, activist, communist, and outspoken trailblazer Lorraine Hansberry. Best known for writing the play A Raisin in the Sun, Hansberry led an extraordinarily active life–befriending James Baldwin, inspiring Nina Simone, facing scrutiny from the FBI, and breaking barriers from Broadway to Hollywood–before her untimely death at age 34. Filmmaker Tracy Heather Strain draws upon hours of archival footage as well as interviews with Hansberry’s contemporaries and colleagues to deliver a rich and nuanced portrait of the artist. Narrated by Anika Noni Rose (Dreamgirls) and featuring interviews with Sidney Poitier, Ruby Dee, Harry Belafonte, and Louis Gossett Jr., Sighted Eyes/Feeling Heart is a moving and beguiling tribute to one of history’s brightest minds.
