Pianist Gary Goodman To Perform All-Bach Recital to benefit the Ossining food pantry

Jun 22, 2019
07:30 PM until 09:30 PM

Gary Goodman, a local virtuoso, is proud to offer Westchester families a benefit concert on Saturday, June 22 at The Church of St. Mary The Virgin in Chappaqua from 7:30 pm-9:30 pm.  The Church is located at 191 South Greeley Avenue in Chappaqua.  The Church will be accepting $ 10.00 donations at the concert to benefit the Ossining Food Pantry.

Mr. Goodman will be playing an all-Bach program.  Bach’s “Suites pour le Clavecin” (Suites for Harpsichord)  considered to be among the crown jewels of the keyboard literature, were composed when Bach was the choir master and director of chamber music at the court in Cothen. Here, Bach turned his compositional efforts away from church cantatas and organ music toward secular chamber and harpsichord music. Each of the six French Suites contains four dances (Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, and Gigue), with various additional movements  added before the final Gigue.  Merging elements of Italian, French, and German dance traditions to create his own personal musical style, Bach delights the listener with a wide variety of tempo, rhythms, and moods.

A resident of Briarcliff Manor, Mr. Goodman earned his Masters of Music at Juilliard under Mr. Josef Raieff.  Mr. Goodman's performance experience ranges from playing numerous concerto engagements in his native Southern California to solo performances at Alice Tully Hall, and at Weill Recital Hall; From a performance in Sao Paulo, Brazil to a broadcasted recital in Washington D.C. at the prestigious Phillips Collection Series.  Gary's New York City debut in 1987 won critical acclaim by New York Times. He was a Semi-finalist in the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition (1980).

Locally, Gary continues to teach private and group lessons and is a member of the Westchester Musicians Guild.  Besides performing benefits for The Church of St. Mary The Virgin, Mr. Goodman has also performed benefits for Midnight Run, Episcopal Haitian Relief Effort, as well as The St. Theresa School in Briarcliff.   He has also performed at The Emelin Theater.
