Foundations of Children’s Yoga for Educators and Clinicians:

The Level One Educator and Clinician intensive provides participants with the fundamental understanding and tools needed to teach yoga and mindfulness practices in a classroom and/or clinical settings.

Time is spent introducing participants to the framework of Connect, Breathe, Move, Focus and Relax that all LFY classes are based on. Practice teaching is emphasized.

  • Understanding the brain-body-nervous system relationship and development

 

  • Making yoga poses accessible, safe and engaging while in the school setting

 

  • Breathwork for children to help throughout the course of a school day

 

  • Introduction to mindfulness and meditation practices applicable for regular practice and to be used for larger moments in school (test time, transitions, holidays, etc)

 

  • Creating a class and integrating practices with yoga and mindfulness within classroom

 

  • Guiding principles for teaching classes based on a compassionate understanding of students’ needs

 

  • Creating physically and emotionally safe space for learning
  • Writing lesson plans and integrating into a school day or clinical setting - either private, workshop, full class or after school setting

 

  • The ethics of teaching yoga to children while in the classroom or clinical setting

Jennifer Cohen Harper is the founder of LFY, and a leading voice in the children’s yoga and mindfulness community. She is the author of Little Flower Yoga for Kids: A Yoga and Mindfulness Program to Help Your Child Improve Attention and Emotional Balance, and the co-editor of Best Practices for Yoga in Schools. Jenn also serves as the board president of the Yoga Service Council, dedicated to making yoga accessible to all regardless of circumstance.
