At the next Ferry Sloops monthly meeting, educator and painter Cynthia Andersen will present a multi-media lecture on "The Hudson River School of Painting", in the Nature Center at Croton Point Park. Admission is free and open to the public, with a potluck supper at 6:30PM.
Learn about The Hudson River School, a mid-19th century American art movement by a group of landscape painters, whose aesthetic vision was influenced by romanticism. Their paintings depict the Hudson River Valley and the surrounding area, as well as the Catskill Mountains, Adirondack Mountains, and the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Their mission was to create an "American" landscape vision and literary voice based on the exploration of Nature - the natural world defined as a resource for spiritual renewal and as an expression of national and cultural identity.
