Alberto MURILLO’s recent works are a striking evolution to the oeuvre of his works. As the Post Modernists, his newfound emphasis is solely on nonobjective content. His focus remains on surface and treatment. Geometrical shapes and rounded forms cross weave and interlock in fluid nexuses. The purity and vivacity of color contributes to their maximal optical effect. These compositions are elegant lyrical works and as always, proficiently and immaculately achieved. His “Retro Series” has been most popular and well received. Murillo continues to evolve this handsome Series, employing this signature, UV Resin infused pigments combined with sandblasting.
Influenced by the Post Painterly Abstractionists, the Color Field Painters of the 50’s, Murillo employs rich polymers, cured in acrylic resin, poured directly on panel and manipulated like skins, into amorphous sumptuous shapes. The immersion of highly saturated color, combined with the direct and action oriented method of pouring, layering, blocking, offers the viewer a visceral experience, a feast of fluid clarity.
Murillo is known for his non-objective color field paintings and iconic images of Chanel Perfume bottles. His multiple explorations and subsequent series reflect a reverence for Pop Art, as well as mid-century architectural design. Murillo’s work may be found in prestigious corporate and private collections, including Givenchy Family Collection, Coca Cola Inc., Bristol Myers Squibb, and Wells Fargo.
