Ethical Cafe: Enslaved Africans’ Rain Garden

Date/Time

Oct 18, 2019
07:30 PM until 09:30 PM

Description

On October 18 at 7:30 PM, the Ethical Culture Society of Westchester (ECSW) will welcome celebrated artist Vinnie Bagwell for a discussion on how we can celebrate marginalized people through art. The event is co-sponsored by the 400 Years Project - a county-wide collaboration.

Vinnie was one of three artists who were selected as finalists to replace the statue of J. Marion Sims in Central Park, removed last year because of his controversial history of experimenting on African American women and performing surgeries without anesthesia. At the event, she will discuss the subjects of her Enslaved Africans’ Rain Garden project, which celebrates the lives of enslaved Africans who lived at Philipse Manor Hall in Yonkers.

The event will also feature musical accompaniment by the Lester Harper Trio.
