The blessing of the fleet is a centuries-old tradition where the clergy would bless the fishing boats in hopes of a safe and bountiful fishing season. Flotilla 75 of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary carries on this tradition for recreational boaters. On Friday, July 4th at 12:00 noon, boats should assemble in Mamaroneck outer harbor between red buoy 10 and Hen Island. Look for the Auxiliary patrol boat and listen on Marine VHF channel 68 for instructions. The procession will then sail into the west basin past the local clergy to receive their blessing. This is a festive event to encourage recreational boaters to enjoy their boats and interact with other boaters. As an added incentive, Mamaroneck merchants: Sea Tow, Mamaroneck Boats and Motors, and Brewer True Value Hardware, have donated over $300 in prizes to be awarded for the best decorated boat. All boats and spectators are welcome.
