What To Do

An Afternoon of Celtic Folk Music At the Larchmont Public Library

Mar 17, 2019
04:00 PM until 05:15 PM

The Friends of the Larchmont Public Library are pleased to present Celtic Folk duo, Slateford Creek, on Sunday, March 17, at 4:00pm. Slateford Creek is Creek is the musical duo of Jan and Jeff Ausfahl whose instruments include guitar, banjo, concertina, Irish tin whistle, Irish bodhran (drum), and other shakers and rattles. Refreshments will be available beginning at 3:30pm.

Slateford Creek’s “Celtic Voyage” program features traditional Irish and Scottish songs, tunes and sea shanties. While Slateford Creek is just two people they create lots of interesting, worldly sounds!

Jeff Ausfahl spent his childhood in Glasgow, Scotland playing the snare drum in the local bagpipe band. He has a bachelor’s degree in jazz guitar from Berklee College of Music and a master’s in classical guitar from Montclair State University. He has toured America, Europe and the South Pacific extensively. Jeff’s first banjo job was on Broadway in New York City in the 1980’s, performing with Mickey Rooney. Since then, he has devoted himself to the unique tuning of the Irish banjo and octave mandolin. Jeff has since lost his Scottish accent but not his love for Celtic music!

Jan started her musical career as a trombonist before taking up the washboard in Cracked Walnuts. Folk instruments have always fascinated her so she has incorporated the Irish tin whistle, the Italian tamburello (a type of tambourine), the English concertina, and even Colombian maracas into Celtic music.
