“A Year of Art” brings together an unusual consortium of artists from all over Westchester County with distinct personal visions in this year’s exhibit. Many of the exhibited works have never been on public view. The Reilly League draws on the uniqueness of the League’s individual member artists.  At the League’s studio in White Plains, NY, artists work together mornings, afternoons and evenings to draw or paint from a live model or still life. Consequently, the subject of the paintings is drawn or painted from a multitude of artist perspectives, in a diversity of media, with a variety of objectives. The singular vision of the artist is always present.

In “A Year of Art” the artists have sometimes included groupings of paintings with the same subject, indicating the pieces were done at the same time at the League’s White Plains studio. When the artists do this, variations in the artist’s vision are easy to see. In other instances, only one painting of a subject is shown and identifying marks of an artist are more subtle.

When artists work together at The Reilly League, they become part of a larger collaboration. Identifying and working together as artists makes each artist’s work stronger, more focused and enjoyable for the artists themselves as well as for viewers of the paintings.

About The Reilly League of Artists

The Reilly League of Artists is a not-for-profit arts organization created by Frank Reilly, a teacher from the Arts Student League in New York City. Ever since the league was founded in the mid-1970s, the studio has been a vibrant center for those interested in working from life, whether a live model or still life.

The Reilly League offers several sessions a week, including during the day, evenings, and weekends. Using a live model some sessions focus on long poses while others focus on quick gestures. Artists are free to work in the medium and style of their choice. Easels, stools and chairs are provided by the Reilly League. Instruction from a classically trained painter is available on Saturday mornings.

All are welcome at the league. There are no entrance requirements. So whether you are a professional artist who wants to refine your skills, a Sunday painter, or an art major who went AWOL after college, you will find the league a pleasant and professional setting.
